Trumpington Park Primary School, Cambridge

Learn

Learning at the heart of a growing community.

Located at the heart of a distinctive new urban development on Cambridge’s southern fringe, Trumpington Park Primary School was created to meet the needs of a growing community.

The new school provides an inspiring learning environment for 630 pupils, alongside 52 places in a co-located nursery, helping to support families moving into the area.

Learning at the heart of a growing community.

We designed a contemporary landmark building that places learning, inclusion and flexibility at its core. The structure uses cross-laminated timber, enabling speedy construction while delivering strong thermal performance, low air leakage and a warm, natural aesthetic where the timber is left exposed within the central heart space.

Teaching accommodation is arranged in clustered key stages around a central hall. This hall can open directly onto a double-height, galleried ICT and library space, forming a large, flexible heart that supports assemblies, shared learning and community use.

The school was developed in close collaboration with Cambridge Primary Education Trust and Cambridgeshire County Council. The design reflects the Trust’s educational vision, allows for future flexibility and promotes inclusion.

We also thought carefully about the school’s role within the wider neighbourhood. Its position and form help shape the public realm, and its open, welcoming frontage contributes to a strong sense of place for the new community growing around it.

The internal and external spaces are equally impressive… all of it combines to make what we think is an exceptional and exciting school, and one that we are proud to have been associated with.
