Supporting a growing town with a new community hub.
Almaren appointed us for The Marque — the tallest residential development in Cambridge at the time that raised the standard for modern living in Cambridge. The scheme delivers 92 one, two and three bedroom apartments finished to an exceptionally high specification, along with 44 affordable homes managed by the Luminus Group. From day one, our aim was to create a building that would offer high quality homes, generous amenity spaces and a strong architectural presence in a prominent location.
At the top of the building sits its most striking feature: a 2,697 sq. ft penthouse arranged over three floors. As the largest and highest apartment in Cambridge, it offers panoramic views over the historic city and anchors the development as a truly distinctive residential destination. Below, the apartments have been designed with modern living in mind, with the majority benefitting from private balconies or terraces that extend living space and maximise natural light.
The ground floor is centred around a dramatic double height entrance lobby, setting the tone for the building and offering residents a sense of arrival. The scheme also includes a resident only gym, a 24hour concierge service, secure underground parking, extensive bike storage and private landscaped courtyard gardens. These spaces have been designed to create a calm and sheltered environment for residents while ensuring privacy from neighbouring buildings.
The Marque also plays an important role in the wider urban context. We introduced a new public open space that connects the development to the public square of the Cambridge Leisure Park to the north. This creates a natural route through the area and ties the building into its surroundings, helping it become a fully integrated part of the community rather than a standalone residential block.
Throughout the design process, we focused on creating high quality, generously sized apartments that meet the expectations of owner occupiers and high end tenants.
