Creating a Hub for Skills, Innovation and Business Growth
Crafting an adaptable office space for long-term value.
Goodman asked us to design 60,000 sq. ft of high quality office space as part of their bid to bring a major international nuclear power company to Gloucester Business Park. Plot 1420 became a pivotal element of their proposal, offering a modern regional headquarters in a location already known for its strong business community and strategic transport links. Our design needed to support Goodman’s commercial vision while giving the occupier confidence that the building could evolve with them over time.

From the outset, we considered how the building should sit within the wider Business Park. We planned the placement of the building, its parking, external spaces, landscaping and the energy centre to ensure everything worked together as a cohesive whole. This meant responding to the park’s existing layout, maintaining consistency in scale and character, and ensuring the building would complement — rather than compete with — neighbouring plots. It also ensured that adjacent sites retained flexibility for future development.
Internally, the project focused on striking the right balance between efficiency and identity. We worked closely with Goodman to achieve an effective lettable to gross ratio, supporting the commercial viability of the base build model. At the same time, we shaped a design that gives the occupier a distinct but understated presence on the park. The architectural language is calm and controlled, offering individuality without disrupting the established character of the area. This approach means the building can suit a single high profile tenant today while still being adaptable for new users in the future.
By leading the design team, we were able to tailor the interior to the occupier’s specific operational needs, creating a workplace that supports both focused work and collaboration, and can flex as requirements change.
The result is a well-connected headquarters that feels at home in its surroundings. It supports Goodman’s wider business strategy, strengthens the occupier’s regional presence, and maintains the design quality that defines Gloucester Business Park. Plot 1420 stands as an example of how thoughtful planning, careful integration and clear architectural identity can work together to create a building that’s efficient, future ready and visually confident — without ever overwhelming its context.

Plot 1420 was delivered by the best, highest performing team that I have ever been privileged to be a part of and Frank Shaw Associates were integral and fundamental to this ethos. The tenant is rightly delighted with their facility which exceeds their expectations.
